{"id":24448,"date":"2024-11-28T13:46:09","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T13:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=24448"},"modified":"2024-11-28T13:46:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T13:46:10","slug":"national-road-safety-awareness-month-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/national-road-safety-awareness-month-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"National Road Safety Awareness Month Launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Kimberly Giddings<\/em><br><em>November 1, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>November marks the observance of National Road Safety Awareness Month in Guyana, with a renewed focus on reducing accidents and road fatalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The month-long initiative was launched this morning with a prayer ceremony hosted by the Police Traffic Department and the Guyana National Road Safety Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn emphasized the need for continued efforts to improve road safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He outlined the country\u2019s commitment to achieving the United Nations\u2019 road safety target of reducing road deaths by 50% by 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Benn acknowledged progress but stressed the need for greater responsibility and awareness to meet this milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traffic Chief Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh reported encouraging reductions in road accidents and fatalities compared to last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While 2023 saw 123 fatal accidents resulting in 144 deaths, 2024 has recorded 32 fewer fatal accidents and 44 fewer deaths so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singh called on regional traffic heads to enforce the law fairly and diligently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He expressed confidence that consistent commitment could reduce annual fatalities to below 100 long before 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s Road Safety Month is being observed under the theme,&nbsp;<em>\u201cDo the Right Thing,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;underscoring the importance of responsible behavior on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government officials, law enforcement, and civil society remain united in their efforts to foster a culture of safety and accountability on Guyana\u2019s roadways.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kimberly GiddingsNovember 1, 2024 November marks the observance of National Road Safety Awareness Month in Guyana, with a renewed focus on reducing accidents and road fatalities.
