{"id":23954,"date":"2024-11-07T14:26:15","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T14:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=23954"},"modified":"2024-11-07T14:26:16","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T14:26:16","slug":"east-bank-demerara-road-to-remain-two-lane-following-stakeholder-consultations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/east-bank-demerara-road-to-remain-two-lane-following-stakeholder-consultations\/","title":{"rendered":"East Bank Demerara Road to Remain Two-Lane Following Stakeholder Consultations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>October 17, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The East Bank Demerara corridor, stretching from Supply to Soesdyke, will remain a two-lane road after extensive consultations with stakeholders and surveying of the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill, confirmed the decision during a recent meeting with residents and business owners in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Edghill explained that while there had been plans to expand the road to four lanes, the realities of respecting private properties and dealing with utility concerns made such a proposal unfeasible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many properties, businesses, and schools are located along the corridor, and the two-lane road will ensure that their needs and safety are prioritized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision to retain a two-lane road design was heavily influenced by public safety concerns, especially in areas with a significant number of schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upgraded road will include adequate space for buses to pick up and drop off passengers, as well as designated parking areas to maintain traffic flow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inclusion of sidewalks will also ensure the safety of children traveling to and from school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $75.8 million East Bank Demerara Road Improvement Project will upgrade the existing road while keeping at least one lane open to traffic during construction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once completed, the upgraded road will feature sidewalks, cycle lanes, LED lighting, thermoplastic road markings, and traffic signs to improve safety and traffic management along this busy corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and public safety across the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>October 17, 2024 The East Bank Demerara corridor, stretching from Supply to Soesdyke, will remain a two-lane road after extensive consultations with stakeholders and surveying of the area.
