{"id":23781,"date":"2024-11-04T13:44:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T13:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=23781"},"modified":"2024-11-04T13:44:20","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T13:44:20","slug":"saint-stanislaus-college-launches-new-51m-science-lab-and-innovation-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/saint-stanislaus-college-launches-new-51m-science-lab-and-innovation-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint Stanislaus College Launches New $51M Science Lab and Innovation Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>By Josiah Williams<\/strong><br><strong>October 9, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgetown, Guyana \u2014 Students at Saint Stanislaus College are now benefiting from a state-of-the-art Chemistry and Physics laboratory, funded through a $51 million investment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lab, which was officially opened on Tuesday, is expected to lay the foundation for advancing STEM education at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the commissioning ceremony, President Dr. Irfaan Ali, an alumnus of the college, announced the establishment of an innovation fund to support student research and entrepreneurship in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would like to support an innovation fund for St. Stanislaus College\u2026to encourage innovation where the children come up with innovative ideas, ideas of entrepreneurship, product development, scientific models for research and development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new laboratory was dedicated to former teacher Herbert Feeny, while a newly upgraded staff room was named after Richard Harford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both projects received funding from the government, alumni, and local families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Education Priya Manickchand also revealed plans for further improvements at the school, including the construction of a three-story block that will house an auditorium with a stage and dressing rooms, and a second-story dining area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She emphasized the Ministry\u2019s commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure to enhance students\u2019 learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, to foster a culture of critical thinking, President Ali donated $500,000 for the Lurine Meertins Debating and Impromptu Awards, aiming to encourage debating and moot competitions among students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Josiah WilliamsOctober 9, 2024 Georgetown, Guyana \u2014 Students at Saint Stanislaus College are now benefiting from a state-of-the-art Chemistry and Physics laboratory, funded through a $51 million investment.
