{"id":23572,"date":"2024-10-28T13:32:36","date_gmt":"2024-10-28T13:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=23572"},"modified":"2024-10-28T13:32:36","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T13:32:36","slug":"region-10-education-month-concludes-with-celebration-of-literacy-and-amerindian-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/region-10-education-month-concludes-with-celebration-of-literacy-and-amerindian-heritage\/","title":{"rendered":"Region 10 Education Month Concludes with Celebration of Literacy and Amerindian Heritage"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>By Shannon Totaram | October 1, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Region Ten Education Department has successfully concluded its month-long observance of Education Month with a vibrant closing ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s theme, &#8220;Investing in Education, Bridging Gaps, Creating Opportunities,&#8221; was brought to life through a series of engaging events centered on literacy, special needs education, and the celebration of Amerindian heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closing ceremony showcased an array of arts and crafts, as well as educational materials crafted by students and teachers during the month\u2019s activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Education Officer Luanna Boyce highlighted the importance of inclusivity, stating that displays encompassed literacy, special education needs, and Amerindian heritage, reflecting the significance of September as Amerindian Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the month, the department implemented several initiatives aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation for education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These initiatives included literacy competitions, cultural showcases, and events specifically designed for students with special educational needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyce emphasized the necessity of including all students in educational activities, particularly during observances such as World Sign Language Day, which advocates for individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A notable highlight was the observance of World Suicide Prevention Awareness Day, where schools participated in activities aimed at raising awareness about mental health and the importance of suicide prevention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools that excelled in these initiatives were recognized at the closing ceremony and awarded for their creativity and efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Education Month has officially concluded, one final event remains: the JOF Haynes Memorial Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This contest, which began on Monday, will continue into October, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to enhance their public speaking and critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Shannon Totaram | October 1, 2024 The Region Ten Education Department has successfully concluded its month-long observance of Education Month with a vibrant closing ceremony.
