{"id":23414,"date":"2024-10-08T14:33:30","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T14:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=23414"},"modified":"2024-10-08T14:33:31","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T14:33:31","slug":"guyana-amazon-warriors-triumph-over-barbados-royals-in-cpl-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-amazon-warriors-triumph-over-barbados-royals-in-cpl-showdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Amazon Warriors Triumph Over Barbados Royals in CPL Showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Eric Collymore | September 26, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a commanding performance at the Guyana National Stadium on Wednesday evening, the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) secured a decisive 47-run victory against the Barbados Royals during the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Warriors faced an early challenge with the dismissal of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for just 7 runs in the opening over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this setback, Azam Khan made a notable contribution, scoring 26 runs with five boundaries before departing in the sixth over, leaving the team at 59 runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The momentum shifted with a strong partnership between Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope, who combined for a crucial 106 runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hetmyer scored 57 runs, and Hope followed with an impressive 71 runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hetmyer was dismissed in the 15th over, bringing the score to 165 for 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moeen Ali&#8217;s stint at the crease was short-lived, as he fell for a duck after facing just three deliveries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hope&#8217;s innings concluded shortly after, and the Warriors were at 181 for 6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Late contributions from Romario Shepherd, who added 23 runs, propelled the team&#8217;s total to 219 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maheesh Theekshana emerged as the standout bowler for the Royals, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs across 4 overs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reply, the Royals encountered difficulties early in their innings, losing two wickets for just 17 runs within the first four overs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kadeem Alleyne and Alick Athanaze both fell early, leaving the Royals under pressure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Warriors continued to apply pressure, dismissing Quinton de Kock for 35 runs and Rivaldo Clarke, leaving the Royals struggling at 63 for 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the challenges, David Miller attempted to anchor the innings with a fighting score of 71 runs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, wickets continued to fall as Rovman Powell and Jason Holder were dismissed for 10 and 7 runs, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royals ultimately ended their innings at 172 runs for 9 wickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guidakesh Motie led the Warriors&#8217;
