The obesity rate among men in Guyana has reached a concerning 41.6 percent, prompting calls from Dr. Sawan Jagnarain of the Ministry of Health for men to prioritize their health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jagnarain highlighted the serious health risks associated with obesity, including an increased likelihood of developing diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These conditions can subsequently lead to more severe health issues such as heart disease, stroke, and vascular diseases, which can ultimately result in fatal outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another alarming health issue affecting men in Guyana is the rising incidence of prostate cancer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jagnarain strongly urges men, particularly those aged 40 and above, to undergo regular screenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that the loss of a life due to prostate cancer can have devastating effects on families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those with a family history of prostate cancer, especially individuals of Afro-Guyanese descent, it is even more crucial to seek screening, as they are at a higher risk for developing the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two screening tests are available in the country for prostate cancer detection: the digital rectal examination and the prostate-specific antigen test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both tests can help in early diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This health alert is part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about men’s health issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
