{"id":23002,"date":"2024-09-12T18:18:37","date_gmt":"2024-09-12T18:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=23002"},"modified":"2024-09-12T18:18:38","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T18:18:38","slug":"heavy-rainfall-causes-severe-flooding-in-linden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/heavy-rainfall-causes-severe-flooding-in-linden\/","title":{"rendered":"Heavy Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding in Linden"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Tracey Liverpool<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several communities in Linden were severely impacted by flooding over the weekend, following an intense period of heavy rainfall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas such as Retrieve, Poker Street, Second &amp; Third Alley, and Silvertown experienced significant water accumulation, leading to widespread damage to homes and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Linden Town Council, the flooding was caused by blocked culverts, which prevented adequate drainage during the downpour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has been called in to provide support, with plans to deploy an excavator to clear the obstructions and restore proper water flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some residents of Retrieve reported as much as 14 inches of water inside their homes after just 45 minutes of rainfall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Silvertown, the water rose to knee-high levels, affecting over 40 households. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many residents expressed concerns over the extent of the damage, with furniture and appliances destroyed by the floodwaters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local authorities, including the Linden Town Council, are working to address the situation, while residents continue to seek relief and assess their losses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tracey Liverpool Several communities in Linden were severely impacted by flooding over the weekend, following an intense period of heavy rainfall.
