{"id":22937,"date":"2024-09-10T20:51:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-10T20:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22937"},"modified":"2024-09-10T20:51:52","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T20:51:52","slug":"ministry-of-education-launches-mathematics-intervention-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ministry-of-education-launches-mathematics-intervention-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Education Launches Mathematics Intervention Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Delicia Janneire<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to improve Mathematics performance among students, the Ministry of Education has introduced a new Mathematics Intervention Programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative, aimed at achieving a 45 to 50 percent pass rate in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination, was launched today at the Cyril Potter College of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme targets 4th and 5th form students preparing for CXC CSEC and Additional Mathematics exams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be implemented in 50 pilot schools where students have achieved a Grade 4 in Mathematics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monitors, chosen for their expertise in the subject, will be posted at these schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their role will include evaluating both teachers and students on their understanding and application of mathematical concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Education Priya Manickchand emphasized that the Ministry will provide all necessary resources for the programme and will subject the monitors to ongoing evaluation to ensure effectiveness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also discussed the current pass rates and the Caribbean Examination Council&#8217;s role in this context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain announced that teachers at the Cyril Potter College of Education will now receive specialized training in Mathematics for the primary level, effective immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mathematics Intervention Programme aims to address gaps in student performance and enhance overall success in Mathematics examinations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire In an effort to improve Mathematics performance among students, the Ministry of Education has introduced a new Mathematics Intervention Programme.
