{"id":22678,"date":"2024-09-09T12:47:02","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T12:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22678"},"modified":"2024-09-09T12:47:03","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T12:47:03","slug":"ministry-of-health-hosts-pcos-health-fair-to-raise-awareness-and-provide-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ministry-of-health-hosts-pcos-health-fair-to-raise-awareness-and-provide-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Health Hosts PCOS Health Fair to Raise Awareness and Provide Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Fabiana Mcklmon<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of PCOS Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health organized a health fair on Sunday at the Police Training Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event aimed to educate women about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and offer various health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fair provided women from Georgetown with free health exams and access to crucial information about their general health, nutrition, mental well-being, physical condition, and infertility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative sought to increase awareness about PCOS, a hormonal disorder affecting women during their reproductive years, whose precise cause remains uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. MaNeke Williams, Women\u2019s Health Coordinator at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the significance of spreading awareness about PCOS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She emphasized that many women suffer in silence due to a lack of knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By providing information, the health fair aimed to empower women to seek treatment and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kimberly Manbodh, Founder and CEO of Cysterhood Support Guyana, also addressed the attendees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She encouraged women to become aware of PCOS and understand that, while there is no cure, various treatments and ongoing studies offer hope for managing the condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manbodh stressed that having PCOS does not make someone different but may require additional effort to achieve personal goals such as weight loss or conception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Symptoms of PCOS include irregular periods, abnormal hair growth, acne, obesity, and infertility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Health plans to conduct additional activities throughout PCOS Awareness Month to further educate and support women dealing with this condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Fabiana Mcklmon In recognition of PCOS Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health organized a health fair on Sunday at the Police Training Centre.
