{"id":22629,"date":"2024-09-05T19:23:14","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T19:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22629"},"modified":"2024-09-05T19:23:19","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T19:23:19","slug":"university-of-guyana-welcomes-record-number-of-new-students-and-caricom-applicants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/university-of-guyana-welcomes-record-number-of-new-students-and-caricom-applicants\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Guyana Welcomes Record Number of New Students and CARICOM Applicants"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Nakasia Logan<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Guyana (UG) is celebrating a significant milestone with the enrollment of a record 3,776 new students for the upcoming academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This achievement marks a notable increase in the number of CARICOM applicants, highlighting UG&#8217;s growing regional and international appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new students will join the approximately 8,000 continuing students across UG\u2019s campuses in Turkeyen and Tain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surge in new enrollments includes a remarkable rise in international students, with 232 applicants from 10 CARICOM countries\u2014a significant jump from 170 applicants last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Nigel Gravesande, Registrar at UG, announced these figures during the Formal Commencement Ceremony for the 2024\/2025 academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the largest number of CARICOM applicants came from Belize, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Lucia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The university\u2019s affiliate program has also expanded, now offering 12 programs with 48 students from seven CARICOM member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, Chancellor Professor Edward Greene welcomed the new students, emphasizing the transformative journey that lies ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He encouraged students to view their time at UG as an adventure filled with opportunities for new friendships, intellectual exploration, and personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Registrar\u2019s Office has committed to enhancing student welfare, providing support services that include academic progress monitoring, accommodation, social and extracurricular activities, and leadership opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As UG prepares to begin classes on September 2, it is poised to offer an enriched educational experience to its expanding student body, both regionally and internationally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nakasia Logan The University of Guyana (UG) is celebrating a significant milestone with the enrollment of a record 3,776 new students for the upcoming academic year.
