{"id":22244,"date":"2024-09-04T14:27:40","date_gmt":"2024-09-04T14:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22244"},"modified":"2024-09-04T14:27:45","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T14:27:45","slug":"government-advances-digital-and-energy-projects-for-amerindian-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-advances-digital-and-energy-projects-for-amerindian-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Advances Digital and Energy Projects for Amerindian Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Josiah Williams<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyanese government is actively working to bridge the digital and energy divide between hinterland and coastland communities, reaffirming its commitment to equitable development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Mark Phillips highlighted these efforts during his address at the National Toshaos Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has already introduced high-speed internet to several communities across regions 1, 2, 5, and parts of region 6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By December, the goal is to connect 250 Amerindian communities with internet speeds exceeding 200 megabytes per second, extending connectivity to regions 6, 7, and 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to internet expansion, the government is focused on bridging the energy gap by deploying solar and other renewable energy technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, 31 communities are benefiting from micro grids and solar PV systems, with plans to build five additional systems in large communities this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Large solar farms are also under construction in Mahdia, Kumu, and Moco, with completed projects in Bartica, Lethem, and Mabaruma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prime Minister assured that all Indigenous communities will receive their full allocation of solar PV home systems before the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Josiah Williams The Guyanese government is actively working to bridge the digital and energy divide between hinterland and coastland communities, reaffirming its commitment to equitable development.
