President Dr. Irfaan Ali was among those who paid their respects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Ali has recommended that Martins be nominated for the Order of the Caribbean Community, a distinction recently awarded to Sir Clive Lloyd at the Heads of Government Meeting in Grenada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President commended Martins for his significant contribution to Guyanese culture and his role in uniting the nation against threats to its territorial integrity and sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retired Major General Joe Singh reflected on his deep friendship with Martins, noting the personal and professional bond they shared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singh highlighted Martins&#8217; empathy and connection with ordinary people, emphasizing how his upbringing on the West Coast of Demerara shaped his understanding and support for local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A memorial honoring Dave Martins&#8217; life and legacy will be organized at a later date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martins was the leader of the renowned Caribbean band The Tradewinds, known for hits such as &#8220;Cricket in the Jungle&#8221; and &#8220;Not a Blade of Grass.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire Dave Martins, the celebrated Guyanese cultural icon and musician, was cremated following a private ceremony held at the Kaashi Dhaam Crematorium in Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara.
