{"id":22185,"date":"2024-09-04T04:14:20","date_gmt":"2024-09-04T04:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22185"},"modified":"2024-09-04T04:14:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T04:14:22","slug":"14m-dehydrating-facility-opens-to-boost-agricultural-production-and-empower-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/14m-dehydrating-facility-opens-to-boost-agricultural-production-and-empower-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"$14M Dehydrating Facility Opens to Boost Agricultural Production and Empower Farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Guyana has taken a significant step toward meeting the growing demand for dehydrated fruits and other commodities with the opening of a $14.3M Dehydrating Facility at Hope Estate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility aims to increase the production of value-added products for both local and international markets, such as Trinidad &amp; Tobago, Chile, and Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new food drying plant has a projected capacity to produce 80 kilograms per hour, translating to 192,000 kilograms per month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility is equipped with advanced dehydrating technology, including two electric dehydrators with 80 trays each to process fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other ground provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative is part of the government&#8217;s ongoing efforts to support the agricultural sector by empowering farmers, enhancing food security, and bolstering Guyana&#8217;s agro-processing capabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility is expected to benefit over 200 individuals, including farmers, agro-processors, women, and youth, allowing them to enhance their business skills while generating additional income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha emphasized that the facility&#8217;s launch marks a significant milestone in the government&#8217;s vision to boost local food production and empower the farming community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Manager of the Guyana Marketing Corporation, Teshawna Lall, noted that the facility will improve the competitiveness of local farmers, ensuring year-round agricultural production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project aligns with the government\u2019s broader goal of creating a resilient agricultural sector and ensuring that Guyana remains a key player in regional and international markets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guyana has taken a significant step toward meeting the growing demand for dehydrated fruits and other commodities with the opening of a $14.3M Dehydrating Facility at Hope Estate.
