{"id":22171,"date":"2024-09-04T02:56:31","date_gmt":"2024-09-04T02:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22171"},"modified":"2024-09-04T02:56:33","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T02:56:33","slug":"idb-loan-for-sheriff-to-mandela-project-concludes-major-lessons-learned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/idb-loan-for-sheriff-to-mandela-project-concludes-major-lessons-learned\/","title":{"rendered":"IDB Loan for Sheriff to Mandela Project Concludes: Major Lessons Learned"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Delicia Janneire<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has officially closed the US$66 million loan for the Sheriff to Mandela Avenue Road Project, following numerous setbacks and delays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally initiated in 2013, the project officially started in 2019 after design modifications under the previous administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a closeout workshop held at Grand Coastal Hotel, IDB Country Representative Lorena Sol\u00f3rzano highlighted the lessons learned during the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These will guide future initiatives, including the East Bank Road Improvement Project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sol\u00f3rzano emphasized the importance of strengthening project management frameworks and minimizing disruption to businesses along road corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Greene, the project manager for IDB projects, noted the implementation of an updated checks and balances system for future projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new &#8220;Resolve&#8221; app, which allows for real-time communication between the public and project teams, will be used in upcoming developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, Valdim Persaud, acknowledged the IDB\u2019s longstanding partnership with Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the loan, additional initiatives were also undertaken, including a sustainable urban transport study and road safety diagnostic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scope of the Sheriff to Mandela project involved widening lanes, installing sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signs, drainage works, and the construction of two roundabouts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has officially closed the US$66 million loan for the Sheriff to Mandela Avenue Road Project, following numerous setbacks and delays.
