{"id":22127,"date":"2024-09-03T20:58:27","date_gmt":"2024-09-03T20:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22127"},"modified":"2024-09-03T20:58:29","modified_gmt":"2024-09-03T20:58:29","slug":"gwi-addresses-water-discoloration-issues-in-georgetown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/gwi-addresses-water-discoloration-issues-in-georgetown\/","title":{"rendered":"GWI Addresses Water Discoloration Issues in Georgetown"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Nakasia Logan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is actively working to resolve significant water discoloration issues affecting central Georgetown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High turbidity and sediment levels at the Shelter Belt intake have disrupted the water supply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem emerged following heavy rains, which washed sediment from a recently dredged conservancy into the water source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWI&#8217;s Chief Executive Officer, Shaik Baskh, confirmed that the company has been working around the clock to address the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efforts include constant flushing of the system to remove sediment buildup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water Quality Specialist, Dr. Deon Anderson, noted that turbidity levels have surged from the usual 15-20 units to as high as 500 units, straining the filtration and sedimentation systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWI is coordinating with related agencies to manage and mitigate such issues in the future and assures the public that improvements are expected shortly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nakasia Logan The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is actively working to resolve significant water discoloration issues affecting central Georgetown.
