{"id":22036,"date":"2024-09-03T00:14:40","date_gmt":"2024-09-03T00:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=22036"},"modified":"2024-09-03T00:14:42","modified_gmt":"2024-09-03T00:14:42","slug":"ug-opens-institute-for-marine-and-riverine-ecologies-and-economies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ug-opens-institute-for-marine-and-riverine-ecologies-and-economies\/","title":{"rendered":"UG Opens Institute for Marine and Riverine Ecologies and Economies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Royan Abrams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Guyana&#8217;s Berbice campus has inaugurated the Institute for Marine and Riverine Ecologies and Economies (IMAREE). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new institute, established with government support, aims to address the labor crisis in the maritime and marine industries while promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vice Chancellor Dr. Paloma Mohamed-Martin announced that IMAREE will train 700 students over the next four years through a comprehensive curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening ceremony was attended by Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat and Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, who praised the institute as a significant advancement for the nation&#8217;s commitment to managing aquatic environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Bharrat highlighted that the institute will support both conservation and economic activities, while Minister Edghill commended its alignment with global sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IMAREE will serve as a key center for research and education, addressing gaps in marine and riverine ecosystems knowledge through collaborations with universities and international organizations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Royan Abrams The University of Guyana&#8217;s Berbice campus has inaugurated the Institute for Marine and Riverine Ecologies and Economies (IMAREE).
