{"id":21982,"date":"2024-09-02T23:01:32","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T23:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21982"},"modified":"2024-09-02T23:02:19","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T23:02:19","slug":"government-launches-voucher-program-for-cervical-cancer-and-eye-screenings-in-linden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-launches-voucher-program-for-cervical-cancer-and-eye-screenings-in-linden\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Launches Voucher Program for Cervical Cancer and Eye Screenings in Linden"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Tracey Liverpool<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has begun distributing vouchers in Region Ten, aimed at improving access to cervical cancer screenings and eye care services for vulnerable groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative was rolled out at Linden Municipal Park over the weekend, benefiting dozens of residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirty-eight women from Linden received vouchers valued at $8,000 to access cervical cancer screenings, while 55 people received $2,000 vouchers for eye tests, facilitated on-site by Dr. Don Gomes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of those tested, 36 individuals were given $15,000 vouchers to cover the cost of spectacles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This marks the first voucher distribution in Region Ten, with plans to extend the program to other areas, including the Berbice River and hinterland regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Regional Health Promotion Officer, Israel Larose, the initiative offers a simple process for accessing vouchers, requiring only an ID card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vouchers are available at all health centers across the region, ensuring easy access for everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beneficiaries like Mr. Ezzy and Christina Rawlins praised the program, noting the financial relief it brings, particularly for older citizens and children needing eye care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to voucher distribution, residents benefited from free blood sugar and pressure testing, medical advice, and blood glucose testing kits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative, launched in June, aims to promote early detection of cervical cancer and improve eye care for school children and senior citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tracey Liverpool The government has begun distributing vouchers in Region Ten, aimed at improving access to cervical cancer screenings and eye care services for vulnerable groups.
