{"id":21889,"date":"2024-09-02T16:08:50","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T16:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21889"},"modified":"2024-09-02T16:09:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T16:09:24","slug":"agriculture-minister-assures-adequate-rice-production-amidst-price-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/agriculture-minister-assures-adequate-rice-production-amidst-price-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Agriculture Minister Assures Adequate Rice Production Amidst Price Concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Saskia Warrick<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent parliamentary session, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha addressed concerns regarding Guyana&#8217;s rice production and the rising market prices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Mustapha assured that the country\u2019s rice production is meeting both local and international demands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This claim is supported by the fact that the first crop of the year exceeded its target, with a production total of 362,030 metric tonnes in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a discussion with the Guyana Rice Millers and Exporter Association, it was revealed that the supply chain is not responsible for the increase in rice prices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opposition had questioned the approval of $524 million from the Contingency Fund for the Guyana Rice Development Board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Mustapha explained that these additional funds are needed to address challenges faced by farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, the National Assembly approved over $4 billion in contingency funds for the Ministry of Agriculture to support both the sugar and rice industries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These funds are allocated to address unforeseen circumstances and emergencies within the sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Saskia Warrick In a recent parliamentary session, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha addressed concerns regarding Guyana&#8217;s rice production and the rising market prices.
