{"id":21846,"date":"2024-09-02T02:39:37","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T02:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21846"},"modified":"2024-09-02T02:39:43","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T02:39:43","slug":"disruption-at-linden-town-council-meeting-safety-violations-cited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/disruption-at-linden-town-council-meeting-safety-violations-cited\/","title":{"rendered":"Disruption at Linden Town Council Meeting: Safety Violations Cited"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Shawnette Fiedtkou<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monthly statutory meeting of the Linden Mayor and Town Council experienced another disruption as vendors and residents from McKenzie Market interrupted proceedings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Town Clerk, Lennox Gasper, cited safety violations as the reason for his departure from the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting, which commenced around 10 a.m., was briefly recessed by Mayor Sharma Solomon to allow councilors time to review the minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, before the session could resume, vendors entered the public gallery and began standing, prompting Gasper to request that they sit, as standing was not permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation escalated when the vendors started clapping in protest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gasper left the chamber, citing the disruption and the rule against members of the gallery speaking or making noise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the interruptions hindered the council\u2019s ability to conduct its business effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Gasper&#8217;s departure, Mayor Solomon addressed the vendors directly, acknowledging their concerns and promising to engage higher authorities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He indicated his intention to call an extraordinary meeting in the coming week to propose a motion of no-confidence in the Town Clerk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Shawnette Fiedtkou The monthly statutory meeting of the Linden Mayor and Town Council experienced another disruption as vendors and residents from McKenzie Market interrupted proceedings.
