{"id":21815,"date":"2024-09-02T01:58:52","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T01:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21815"},"modified":"2024-09-02T01:58:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T01:58:57","slug":"women-urged-to-get-screened-for-cervical-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/women-urged-to-get-screened-for-cervical-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Women Urged to Get Screened for Cervical Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Tracy Romalho<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women aged 21 to 65 are being encouraged to undergo cervical cancer screening, as early detection can significantly increase treatment success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Lachmie Lall, Director of the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Programme at the Ministry of Health, highlighted that cervical cancer, though the second most prevalent cancer in Guyana, is preventable and curable if diagnosed early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent episode of <em>Health Matters<\/em>, Dr. Lall emphasized the importance of routine screening and urged women to take advantage of the Ministry of Health\u2019s Cervical Cancer Screening Programme, which offers an $8,000 voucher for screening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also pointed out that most cases of cervical cancer are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus known for causing genital warts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Lall outlined key symptoms of cervical cancer, such as abnormal discharges, which often prompt women to seek medical attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She stressed that screening and early treatment can lead to a better quality of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tracy Romalho Women aged 21 to 65 are being encouraged to undergo cervical cancer screening, as early detection can significantly increase treatment success.
