On Thursday, Housing Minister Collin Croal delivered core homes to five low-income families as part of the government’s initiative to provide affordable and sustainable housing in Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The homes were distributed across Great Diamond, Golden Grove, and Farm on the East Bank of Demerara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the beneficiaries was Debra Best, who uses a walker for mobility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her new home in Section C, Great Diamond, was designed with features to enhance her accessibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best expressed her deep appreciation for the support from the Minister, the IDB, CHP, and the construction team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donnette McAlmont, another recipient who had been renting for years, was relieved to finally have her own home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She looks forward to using the money she previously spent on rent for home improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Croal noted that over a billion dollars is being invested in the East Bank of Demerara through the IDB-funded Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This investment supports various housing initiatives, including the Core Homes project and the Home Improvement Subsidy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, 80 additional homes for the East Bank corridor are in the procurement process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2020, the government has handed over 121 Core Homes and approved 900 beneficiaries for the Home Improvement Subsidy Initiative, with 600 subsidies already disbursed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subsidy amount has increased from $500,000 to $750,000 to help individuals improve their living conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
