{"id":21498,"date":"2024-07-27T01:42:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-27T01:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21498"},"modified":"2024-07-27T01:42:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-27T01:42:47","slug":"update-on-corentyne-river-bridge-project-key-developments-and-financing-awaited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/update-on-corentyne-river-bridge-project-key-developments-and-financing-awaited\/","title":{"rendered":"Update on Corentyne River Bridge Project: Key Developments and Financing Awaited"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Delicia Janneire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Development works are actively progressing for the New Corentyne River Bridge, which is set to be a crucial infrastructure link between Guyana and Suriname. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill recently provided an update on the project during a meeting with the Berbice Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Edghill indicated that the project is currently awaiting approval on financing arrangements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the Presidents of Guyana and Suriname have approached the Chinese government to explore concessional financing options for the US $300 million initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the financing agreement is finalized, construction will commence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridge is planned to span from South Drain to Long Island, with a connecting road extending through Long Island to Moleson Creek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surveying for the main access road leading to and beyond the bridge has already been completed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Development works from Moleson Creek towards the El Dorado area are underway, including the construction of supporting infrastructure such as bridges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This road will not only facilitate access to the bridge but also open up new agricultural lands in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bridge project, first proposed in a 2020 memorandum between Guyana and Suriname, aims to enhance connectivity and support regional integration efforts involving Suriname, Guyana, and Brazil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire Development works are actively progressing for the New Corentyne River Bridge, which is set to be a crucial infrastructure link between Guyana and Suriname.
