{"id":21365,"date":"2024-07-20T00:21:51","date_gmt":"2024-07-20T00:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21365"},"modified":"2024-07-20T00:22:07","modified_gmt":"2024-07-20T00:22:07","slug":"lambert-advocates-for-three-strike-system-to-improve-road-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/lambert-advocates-for-three-strike-system-to-improve-road-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Lambert Advocates for &#8220;Three-Strike System&#8221; to Improve Road Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Earl Lambert, has proposed the implementation of a &#8220;three-strike system&#8221; to address repeat traffic offenders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This proposal follows recent amendments to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, which now permits the use of photos and videos to prosecute errant motorists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strategically placed cameras at intersections and along major thoroughfares will capture images used to enforce traffic laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the &#8220;Road Safety &amp; You&#8221; program on Wednesday, Lambert emphasized the importance of a three-strike system, suggesting that repeat offenders should face license suspension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, he proposed that drivers who have their licenses suspended should be required to retake their driving course to regain their license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new system, photos and tickets for road infractions will be sent directly to the vehicle owner&#8217;s phone and home address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Sergeant Harold Noble of the Sage Pond Police Station expressed concerns over the rising number of road accidents and incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed the need for increased public education on the proper use of roundabouts, noting that many drivers do not know how to navigate them correctly, leading to numerous accidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He highlighted that drivers often fail to wait or take appropriate caution at roundabouts, resulting in significant damage and loss of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, 175 people lost their lives in road accidents, underscoring the critical need for enhanced road safety measures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Earl Lambert, has proposed the implementation of a &#8220;three-strike system&#8221; to address repeat traffic offenders.
