{"id":21212,"date":"2024-07-10T18:41:29","date_gmt":"2024-07-10T18:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=21212"},"modified":"2024-07-10T18:41:41","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T18:41:41","slug":"region-ten-chairman-urges-government-to-adopt-2021-drainage-plan-for-linden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/region-ten-chairman-urges-government-to-adopt-2021-drainage-plan-for-linden\/","title":{"rendered":"Region Ten Chairman Urges Government to Adopt 2021 Drainage Plan for Linden"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p><em>By Jacquey Bourne<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Region Ten Chairman, Deron Adams, has called on the Central Government to revisit and implement a 2021 plan aimed at improving drainage in central Linden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adams made this request during Thursday&#8217;s statutory meeting, addressing the severe flooding that has recently impacted the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent floods in Linden have caused significant losses for both businesses and residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adams highlighted the necessity of hiring a surveyor to assess the town&#8217;s drains and outfalls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that both large and small businesses, including Republic Bank, have been affected by the flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Adams commended the recent cleaning initiative in the town, he stressed the importance of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) considering the recommendations from the latest assessments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He believes that more can be done to address the drainage issues if the NDIA establishes an office in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional Executive Officer Dwight John informed the meeting that discussions had been held with leaders at the Linden Mayor and Town Council to seek Central Government&#8217;s assistance in conducting a comprehensive survey of the town&#8217;s drainage systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the allocation of $22 million for the construction of an NDIA office in Region Ten, Adams noted that the project was put on hold even after the contract was awarded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He expressed his view that the presence of an NDIA office would significantly enhance the region&#8217;s ability to manage drainage and irrigation issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adams remains optimistic that with the necessary support and resources, Linden can effectively address its drainage challenges and mitigate future flooding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jacquey Bourne Region Ten Chairman, Deron Adams, has called on the Central Government to revisit and implement a 2021 plan aimed at improving drainage in central Linden.
