{"id":20392,"date":"2024-06-07T15:16:19","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T15:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=20392"},"modified":"2024-06-07T15:16:35","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T15:16:35","slug":"pac-hosts-open-day-at-botanical-gardens-for-world-environment-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/pac-hosts-open-day-at-botanical-gardens-for-world-environment-day\/","title":{"rendered":"PAC Hosts Open Day at Botanical Gardens for World Environment Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Delicia Janneire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) marked World Environment Day with an Open Day event held at the Botanical Gardens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the theme of &#8216;land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience,&#8217; the event aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and preservation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event saw the participation of members of the public, stakeholders, and aspiring conservationists who gathered to celebrate and learn about environmental initiatives led by the PAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commissioner of PAC, Jason Fraser, highlighted the importance of the event, emphasizing the need to refocus on protecting and conserving the environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized the direct link between conservation efforts and land rehabilitation, showcasing the commission&#8217;s ongoing work in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participating in the Open Day were representatives from various protected areas under the commission, including the Shell Beach Protected Area, Kanuku Mountains Protected Areas, and Kaieteur National Park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These representatives engaged with attendees, providing insights into their respective conservation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rayon McGregor, a Research Officer at PAC, emphasized the significance of coastal protection, urging continued support for the preservation of marine species nesting in the Shell Beach Protected Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anthony Ramshoir, Manager of the Zoo, highlighted the importance of wildlife conservation, urging the public not to keep wildlife as pets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that the zoo serves as a wildlife rescue center, housing animals donated or confiscated by the wildlife commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on the theme of World Environment Day, which focuses on land restoration and resilience, the event underscored the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Delicia Janneire The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) marked World Environment Day with an Open Day event held at the Botanical Gardens.
