{"id":20375,"date":"2024-06-07T14:52:36","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=20375"},"modified":"2024-06-07T14:52:49","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:52:49","slug":"guyana-kicks-off-environment-week-with-regional-walks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-kicks-off-environment-week-with-regional-walks\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Kicks Off Environment Week with Regional Walks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Royan Abrams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyana is celebrating Environment Week, coinciding with the June 5 observance of World Environment Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week-long celebration began with a series of walks across various regions, including East Berbice Corentyne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Region 6, the march commenced at Tacama Turn and concluded at the State House in New Amsterdam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event aimed to raise awareness about environmental preservation under the theme &#8220;Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Berbice, Sasenarine Tomby, highlighted the event&#8217;s significance in bringing together various agencies and stakeholders to share knowledge on protecting the environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomby emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental preservation, urging people to come together to protect and preserve the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor of New Amsterdam, Wainwright McIntosh, applauded the EPA for organizing such an impactful event within the township. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the event sends a strong message about the importance of maintaining and protecting the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>World Environment Day, led by the United Nations Environment Programme, has been held annually since 1973. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has grown to become the largest global platform for environmental outreach, celebrated by millions of people worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s observance on June 5 continues to emphasize the critical need for sustainable environmental practices and awareness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Royan Abrams Guyana is celebrating Environment Week, coinciding with the June 5 observance of World Environment Day.
