{"id":20372,"date":"2024-06-07T14:50:26","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=20372"},"modified":"2024-06-07T14:50:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:50:27","slug":"first-lady-arya-ali-advocates-for-tourism-sector-diversification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/first-lady-arya-ali-advocates-for-tourism-sector-diversification\/","title":{"rendered":"First Lady Arya Ali Advocates for Tourism Sector Diversification"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Nakasia Logan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First Lady Arya Ali is advocating for the diversification of Guyana\u2019s tourism sector, emphasizing the untapped potential in areas beyond the traditional eco-tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She made these remarks at the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) President\u2019s Awards Dinner and Auction held at the Guyana Marriott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the gathering, First Lady Ali highlighted three key areas for diversification: medical tourism, educational tourism, and sports tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She underscored the importance of recognizing the economic and cultural significance of these non-traditional tourism forms, describing them as strategic drivers of national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While the traditional areas such as eco-tourism remain the foundation upon which the sector, it is imperative for you to recognizes the important of adaptability and diversity and seize new opportunity\u00a0,&#8221; she stated. &#8220;These three non-traditional areas of tourism Education, Sport and Medical, provide a unique opportunity for building a more resilient and diversified sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>THAG President Dee George echoed the First Lady\u2019s sentiments, noting that the collective efforts of government, industry stakeholders, and the wider community are essential for realizing the sector&#8217;s full potential and fostering sustainable growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George emphasized the need for positivity and collaboration within the industry to create a welcoming environment for tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, several tourism and hospitality businesses were recognized for their contributions. Awards included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hotel of the Year<\/strong>: Grand Coastal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Resort\/Lodge of the Year<\/strong>: Baganara<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restaurant of the Year<\/strong>: Grand Coastal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tour Operator of the Year<\/strong>: Wilderness Explorers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tour Guide of the Year<\/strong>: Leon Moore<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Best Street Food<\/strong>: Exclusive Eggball<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hall of Famer Award<\/strong>: Gem Eytle of Frandec Travel Service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The President\u2019s Choice Awards were presented to British Ambassador Jane Miller and Environmental Management Consultants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening also featured several rounds of auctioning, with attendees winning destination trips, dinners, and spa dates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, 15% of ticket proceeds will support the First Lady\u2019s National Beautification Project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nakasia Logan First Lady Arya Ali is advocating for the diversification of Guyana\u2019s tourism sector, emphasizing the untapped potential in areas beyond the traditional eco-tourism.
