{"id":19888,"date":"2024-05-28T12:43:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T12:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=19888"},"modified":"2024-05-28T12:44:10","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T12:44:10","slug":"promoting-tourism-careers-in-schools-thag-advocates-for-curriculum-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/promoting-tourism-careers-in-schools-thag-advocates-for-curriculum-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"Promoting Tourism Careers in Schools: THAG Advocates for Curriculum Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Nakasia Logan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyana Tourism Hospitality Association (THAG), led by President Omadele George, is spearheading an initiative to raise awareness about career opportunities in the tourism sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This effort aims to reshape perceptions and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in tourism and hospitality, emphasizing the sector&#8217;s significance to the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, careers in medicine and engineering have overshadowed those in hospitality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, George highlighted that the rewards of a career in hospitality are significant but often underestimated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address this, THAG is advocating for the integration of tourism education into school curriculums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George outlined a comprehensive plan that begins at the primary school level, where children would learn about the importance of environmental cleanliness, an integral aspect of the tourism industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As students progress to high school, they would have opportunities for internships and attachments to organizations within the tourism sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This progression would ideally lead to formal education and training at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) level and tertiary education within the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration between THAG and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) underscores a commitment to fostering a culture of understanding and appreciation for the tourism sector among both the younger generation and adults. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Guyana rapidly becoming a hub for investments in hotel chains, the demand for skilled human resources in tourism and hospitality is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative by THAG aims to ensure that more young people intentionally choose careers in hospitality, recognizing the benefits and opportunities the sector offers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Nakasia Logan The Guyana Tourism Hospitality Association (THAG), led by President Omadele George, is spearheading an initiative to raise awareness about career opportunities in the tourism sector.
