{"id":18361,"date":"2024-04-11T15:41:12","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T15:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=18361"},"modified":"2024-04-11T15:41:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T15:41:13","slug":"48-hour-ultimatum-for-deputy-mayor-mmg-account-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/48-hour-ultimatum-for-deputy-mayor-mmg-account-delay\/","title":{"rendered":"48-Hour Ultimatum for Deputy Mayor: MMG Account Delay"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>By Jacquey Bourne<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Linden&#8217;s Mayor Sharma Solomon has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to his deputy mayor regarding the activation of a Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mandate was initially given during February&#8217;s Monthly Statutory Meeting of the Linden Mayor and Town Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The urgency stems from the need to have the MMG account operational in time for the proposed Amnesty period for rates and taxes, coinciding with the town&#8217;s anniversary celebrations starting on April 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Wednesday&#8217;s statutory meeting, Mayor Solomon sought an update on the MMG account setup and expressed dissatisfaction with the response received. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that the MMG account would streamline payments, particularly in light of the significant sum owed to the Council, amounting to fifty-five million dollars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the likelihood of not receiving all outstanding payments at once, Mayor Solomon stressed the importance of implementing the MMG system promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Solomon lamented the Council&#8217;s failure to expedite the MMG account setup, noting that GTT has already approved the initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He underscored the negative impact of the delay, describing it as self-inflicted injury to the Council&#8217;s finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mayor remains hopeful that swift action will be taken by the Deputy Mayor to resolve the issue within the stipulated 48-hour timeframe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He aims to announce to the Town soon that payments for rates and taxes can be made via MMG, facilitating easier access to payment options for residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jacquey Bourne Linden&#8217;s Mayor Sharma Solomon has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to his deputy mayor regarding the activation of a Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) account.
