Phillip Fernandes, President of the Board and player for Guyana’s Masters hockey team, is expressing confidence in the team’s prospects as they prepare to compete in the Masters category of the Indoor Hockey World Cup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament is scheduled to commence on Thursday in Nottingham, England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guyana will be represented by a male team in the over 45 category, participating in the competition organized by World Masters Hockey from March 28th to April 1st. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This World Cup features national teams from around the globe competing in various age groups, including over 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guyanese team will face stiff competition from countries such as Germany, France, England, Canada, Bangladesh, Australia, and Wales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenging lineup of opponents, Fernandes believes that Guyana has assembled a formidable team capable of making a strong showing in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparations for the tournament have been rigorous, with the team intensifying their training regimen in London ahead of their departure for England. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fernandes highlighted the team’s focused approach and positive energy leading up to the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival in England on Monday, the Guyanese team wasted no time in acclimatizing to their surroundings and fine-tuning their strategies for the matches ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are set to kick off their campaign against Canada in the opening match on Thursday, followed by matches against England and Wales in the pool rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guyana Masters team boasts a blend of experience and talent, including four former national captains: Ian Nicholson, Alan Fernandes, Philip Fernandes, and Devin Munroe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the team features overseas players such as Marc King (Canada), Captain Jerazeno Bell (Jamaica), and goalkeeper Gregory Garraway (Trinidad and Tobago).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completing the roster are Azad DeAbreu, Devin Hooper, Chris Low-Koan, Ivor Thompson, and Dwayne Scott, with coaching and management support provided by former Canadian International Jonathan Roberts, Manager Allan Newark, Assistant Manager Jeremy Roberts, and Assistant Coach George Melville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
