The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security in Guyana is set to bolster its childcare system, focusing on budgetary allocations and the modernization of existing legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud shared insights into the upcoming changes, emphasizing the government’s dedication to providing essential services and developmental opportunities for Guyanese citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of these initiatives, the ministry has slated the opening of new childcare facilities in 2024, including two early childhood day and night care centers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an estimated cost of 79 million dollars for the facility in Region 3 and 89 million dollars for the one in Region 4, these additions aim to cater to the growing needs of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WOMEN\u2019s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) programme has been instrumental in training hundreds of women in childcare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These skilled individuals are now actively contributing to the establishment and development of childcare services in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognizing the need for legislative updates, Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud stressed the importance of revising outdated laws related to the welfare of children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry is gearing up to introduce new legislation, encompassing a reunification policy, an alternative care policy, and the establishment of a central authority within the first quarter of the year to facilitate international adoptions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Efforts will also be directed towards ensuring compliance with legislations governing child protection, child maintenance, and abduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These initiatives are aligned with the ‘Every Child Safe’ Programme, which governs the operations of the Childcare and Protection Agency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The overarching goal is to guarantee the safety, well-being, and positive development of every child within the childcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to legislative reforms, the ministry plans to introduce parenting programs and workbooks, aiming to enhance parenting skills within the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foster care system is also set for improvement, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing better care and support for children in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
