Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) have recently formalized a groundbreaking four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), spanning from October 2023 to September 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic agreement includes several crucial provisions aimed at improving conditions and rewards for players in the West Indies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One significant aspect of the agreement involves a commitment to gender parity, with an increase in fees for female players participating in both regional and international matches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move aligns with the broader objective of promoting fairness and equal treatment within the regional cricketing community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, players will have the option to sign multi-year retainer contracts, extending up to three years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This provision allows players greater stability and planning in their professional careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting October 2024, players in the playing eleven will receive full match fees, while those in the reserves will receive 80% of the match fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This adjustment aims to ensure that all players are adequately compensated for their contributions to the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the MOU grants players on retainer contracts the flexibility to put their contracts on hold when participating in overseas domestic franchise leagues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move acknowledges the growing trend of players engaging in various T20 leagues worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement also extends support to players’ families by providing transportation and accommodation during international games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This provision recognizes the importance of family support for players’ well-being and performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CWI and WIPA have also committed to a comprehensive review and update of various policies, including those related to fitness and conditioning, science and medicine, No Objection Certificates (NOC), and selection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This commitment reflects a proactive approach to ensuring that the policies governing West Indies cricket remain relevant and effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the agreement, CWI CEO Johnny Grave, WIPA head Wavell Hinds, and CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow expressed their satisfaction with the positive step forward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They emphasized the significance of the MOU in promoting fairness, rewarding excellence, and ensuring the overall well-being of West Indies cricketers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
