{"id":15554,"date":"2024-01-15T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2024-01-15T16:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=15554"},"modified":"2024-01-15T16:51:38","modified_gmt":"2024-01-15T16:51:38","slug":"mahaicony-river-residents-receive-water-tanks-for-improved-access-to-potable-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/mahaicony-river-residents-receive-water-tanks-for-improved-access-to-potable-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahaicony River Residents Receive Water Tanks for Improved Access to Potable Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Over 200 households in the Mahaicony River and surrounding areas in Region Five have received 1,700-liter black water tanks, enhancing their access to potable water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha personally visited the area to distribute the tanks, addressing the concerns raised by residents in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents had previously expressed worries about saltwater intrusion in the Mahaicony River, as well as issues related to potable water and irrigation for their farmlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Mustapha raised these concerns at Cabinet, leading to President Ali&#8217;s directive to provide a water tank for each household.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the distribution, Minister Mustapha reiterated the government&#8217;s commitment to providing resources to improve the livelihoods of residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also highlighted other infrastructural developments planned for the region and discussed the outlook for rice production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The distribution of black tanks extended to other communities, including Bamboo Landing, Western, and Sea-Kumaka, satellite areas in Whitewater Village in the Mabaruma sub-district, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Saskia Warrick, Reporting for NCN News<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 200 households in the Mahaicony River and surrounding areas in Region Five have received 1,700-liter black water tanks, enhancing their access to potable water.
