{"id":15342,"date":"2024-01-09T16:05:11","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T16:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=15342"},"modified":"2024-01-09T16:05:12","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T16:05:12","slug":"ag-anil-nandlall-expresses-concern-over-slow-pace-of-election-fraud-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/ag-anil-nandlall-expresses-concern-over-slow-pace-of-election-fraud-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"AG Anil Nandlall Expresses Concern Over Slow Pace of Election Fraud Cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Attorney General Anil Nandlall has voiced his concerns about the sluggish progress of several high-profile election fraud cases currently before the courts in Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With general and regional elections scheduled for the following year, Nandlall emphasized the need for these cases to be expedited, describing the delays as a great travesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Samuel-Election-Cases-1.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Nandlall, approximately 30 charges related to election fraud are still pending in the Magistrates&#8217; Court. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He expressed disappointment in the prolonged nature of the cases, noting that they have been stalled for years, partly due to magistrates recusing themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nandlall revealed that the intervention of Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards has been sought to ensure the cases receive the attention and seriousness they deserve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Samuel-Election-Cases-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized the importance of expediting the legal proceedings to uphold justice and fairness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A case management conference is expected to take place on January 15, led by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
