{"id":15044,"date":"2024-01-04T15:06:30","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T15:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=15044"},"modified":"2024-01-04T15:06:32","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T15:06:32","slug":"guyana-rugby-football-union-looks-to-improve-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-rugby-football-union-looks-to-improve-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Rugby Football Union Looks to Improve in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Ryan Dey, expressed the union&#8217;s determination to achieve more successes in 2024 after participating in the Grenada Rugby 7&#8217;s tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Grenada Invitational Rugby 7&#8217;s, Guyana faced tough competition, losing their opener 29-0 to Atlantis men but rebounding with a 20-14 victory against Trinidad Defence Force. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, they faced another setback in the third game, losing 26-5 to Misfits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Green Machine secured a 26-0 victory against FRN men in their fourth game but finished outside the top four positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Ryan Dey acknowledged that the outing in Grenada did not meet their intended goals, but it provided valuable insights as they prepare for the Rugby Americas North 7&#8217;s tournament next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead to the 15&#8217;s tournaments, President Dey mentioned that they are awaiting fixtures to begin grooming the national rugby team, anticipating that it might start in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last three years, Guyana has been actively working on developing a younger generation of elite rugby players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Claudius Butts, a former Guyana and West Indian captain, was re-appointed as the head coach for a second term this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will collaborate with Kevin Mackenzie, a former national and professional rugby player based in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Guyana Rugby Football Union remains focused on improving its performance and nurturing a new breed of talented rugby players in the coming year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Ryan Dey, expressed the union&#8217;s determination to achieve more successes in 2024 after participating in the Grenada Rugby 7&#8217;s tournament.
