{"id":15039,"date":"2024-01-04T15:03:30","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T15:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=15039"},"modified":"2024-01-04T15:03:31","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T15:03:31","slug":"georgetown-public-hospital-corporation-records-decline-in-maternal-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/georgetown-public-hospital-corporation-records-decline-in-maternal-deaths\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Records Decline in Maternal Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has reported a decline in maternal deaths, marking significant progress in the health sector&#8217;s efforts to improve maternal healthcare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Dr. Rafi Rozan, the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at GPHC, during a recent press conference, there have been 10 maternal deaths recorded at the hospital this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He outlined the causes of these deaths, attributing three to ectopic pregnancies, three to respiratory disorders, three to hypertension disease in pregnancy, and one to hypovolemic shock after a cesarean section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Saskia-Maternal-Deaths-1.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the recorded deaths, Dr. Rozan highlighted the successful interventions that saved over 300 women in critical condition, categorizing them as maternal near misses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Saskia-Maternal-Deaths-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, there are approximately 2 million stillbirths every year, occurring at a rate of one in every 16 seconds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Guyana, there were 54 stillbirths recorded this year, representing 11 for every 1000 births.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Rozan shared plans for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department to enhance its services further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A specialist in urogynecology will soon join the team, and a new unit for maternal fetal medicine will be established to provide special care for severe maternal morbidity and life-threatening cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decline in maternal deaths and the successful interventions demonstrate the commitment of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation to improving maternal healthcare outcomes and ensuring the well-being of mothers and infants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has reported a decline in maternal deaths, marking significant progress in the health sector&#8217;s efforts to improve maternal healthcare.
