{"id":14965,"date":"2024-01-04T13:57:48","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T13:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=14965"},"modified":"2024-01-04T13:57:50","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T13:57:50","slug":"significant-progress-reported-in-gbv-and-human-trafficking-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/significant-progress-reported-in-gbv-and-human-trafficking-battle\/","title":{"rendered":"Significant Progress Reported in GBV and Human Trafficking Battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The Ministry of Human Service and Social Security is lauding a substantial advancement in its ongoing fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Human Trafficking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the ministry&#8217;s latest report, details on the progress made in 2023 have been disclosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The domestic violence hotline, 914, received an overwhelming response with over 14,000 reports of GBV and 36 cases of trafficking in persons throughout 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, revealed these statistics during an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Delecia-GBV-Reporting-1.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a video clip, Dr. Persaud outlined the comprehensive efforts undertaken by the ministry, including conducting over 100 sessions on gender-based awareness, training over 100 social workers, and providing assistance through the survivor advocate program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hotline, 914, handled 14,300 calls, resulting in 418 domestic violence reports and 83 sexual offences reports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, 2688 individuals were aided through the survivor advocate program, with 2456 receiving crisis counseling and 1861 obtaining court support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister noted that 74 individuals benefited from shelter support, while over 1000 people received free legal support and advice through the pro-bono program, with more than 20 individuals represented in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Human Service and Social Security addressed human trafficking reports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Persaud highlighted successful joint operations, including raids, convictions, restitution, and training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Delecia-GBV-Reporting-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 1000 frontline personnel were trained to combat trafficking, resulting in eight cases charged, three cases receiving restitution, and successful convictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, 317 individuals were identified as alleged victims of Trafficking in Persons (TIP), with 36 cases confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead to 2024, the Ministry has set its sights on passing the new Family Act bill to enhance its efforts against GBV and human trafficking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Human Service and Social Security is lauding a substantial advancement in its ongoing fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Human Trafficking.
