{"id":14525,"date":"2023-12-12T18:42:25","date_gmt":"2023-12-12T18:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=14525"},"modified":"2023-12-12T18:42:27","modified_gmt":"2023-12-12T18:42:27","slug":"investigation-concludes-into-fatal-accident-at-aurora-gold-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/investigation-concludes-into-fatal-accident-at-aurora-gold-mine\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigation Concludes Into Fatal Accident at Aurora Gold Mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The investigation into the fatal accident at the Aurora Gold Mine on Saturday, November 18, has been concluded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), conducted the probe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident resulted in the tragic death of 47-year-old Joseph Licorish, a driver from West Watooka, Wismar, Linden, who was associated with the Aurora Gold Mines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past several weeks, the Ministry of Labour and GGMC, in partnership with the Guyana Police Force, worked to determine the true cause of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Labour has announced that it has identified the cause(s) of the accident and will provide the company with recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigative team assessed the accident scene, examined the trucks, reviewed maintenance records, gathered statements from eyewitnesses, and verified standard operational procedures with the maintenance department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the investigative process, maintenance workers, truck drivers, and operators received training on accident prevention and were sensitized to the importance of safe work practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) department is currently analyzing the information obtained to determine the findings and make recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joseph Licorish lost his life in a collision involving the truck he was driving and another truck driven by 41-year-old Nigel Denny. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licorish was initially taken to the health center and later airlifted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton expressed concern about workplace fatalities, emphasizing the importance of promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for both workers and employers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The investigation into the fatal accident at the Aurora Gold Mine on Saturday, November 18, has been concluded.
