{"id":13799,"date":"2023-11-09T16:13:22","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T16:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=13799"},"modified":"2023-11-09T16:13:23","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T16:13:23","slug":"guyana-expects-electricity-woes-to-ease-by-mid-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/guyana-expects-electricity-woes-to-ease-by-mid-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Guyana Expects Electricity Woes to Ease by Mid-December"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is taking significant steps to address the current electricity shortage in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 28.9-megawatt generator has been procured and is en route to Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This development is projected to alleviate the ongoing power supply issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The generating sets, along with six step-up transformers, were acquired from Apan Energy Service Inc. at a cost of $27.5 million US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The present demand for electricity stands at approximately 184.5 megawatts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, due to maintenance on a 7.8-megawatt engine (which is around 14 years old), only 167 megawatts are currently being supplied. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maintenance is anticipated to conclude by November 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure a stable electricity supply during peak hours, GPL has temporarily removed certain industrial companies from the grid, allowing them to self-generate power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, assured citizens that the inconvenience caused by these service interruptions will be resolved by December 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He acknowledged the impact these disruptions have had on citizens across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the government is exploring the possibility of re-engaging the Giftland Company to augment power generation capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giftland Mall presently operates its own power-generating system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With these strategic measures, Guyana is poised to see a significant improvement in its electricity supply in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is taking significant steps to address the current electricity shortage in the country.
