{"id":13254,"date":"2023-10-17T21:04:40","date_gmt":"2023-10-17T21:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=13254"},"modified":"2023-10-17T21:04:41","modified_gmt":"2023-10-17T21:04:41","slug":"government-to-strengthen-asset-recovery-operations-in-collaboration-with-law-enforcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/government-to-strengthen-asset-recovery-operations-in-collaboration-with-law-enforcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Strengthen Asset Recovery Operations in Collaboration with Law Enforcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The government of Guyana is taking strategic measures to enhance the capacity of local law enforcement agencies in conducting effective asset recovery operations, ultimately leading to increased convictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, emphasized the necessity for more successful prosecutions in asset recovery cases within Guyana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Financial Investigation and Asset Recovery Workshop, he affirmed the government&#8217;s commitment to improvement in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Guyana boasts the most modern Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML-CFT) legislation in the Caribbean, a review by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) identified some areas in asset recovery efforts that require attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AG Nandlall underlined the need for a unified approach to combat organized crime effectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that targeting criminals&#8217; assets is one of the most impactful ways to retaliate against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government plans to provide extensive training for law enforcement officials to combat these high-profile criminal activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Properly trained officers are anticipated to lead to more cases being prosecuted in the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nandlall stressed that as these efforts are implemented to enhance asset recovery, the laws governing this process will be rigorously enforced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also emphasized the importance of conducting asset seizures in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative follows a familiarization training session conducted for judicial officers, magistrates, and financial organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three-day workshop, organized by the government of Guyana in collaboration with the Regional Security System-Asset Recovery Unit, aims to strengthen the capabilities of various law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Reporting for NCN News, Josiah Williams.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government of Guyana is taking strategic measures to enhance the capacity of local law enforcement agencies in conducting effective asset recovery operations, ultimately leading to increased convictions.
