{"id":12767,"date":"2023-09-15T14:49:26","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T14:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/?p=12767"},"modified":"2023-09-15T14:49:27","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T14:49:27","slug":"commission-of-inquiry-into-mahdia-dormitory-fire-set-to-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncnguyana.com\/2023\/commission-of-inquiry-into-mahdia-dormitory-fire-set-to-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Commission of Inquiry into Mahdia Dormitory Fire Set to Begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the tragic Mahdia Secondary School dormitory fire of March 22 is scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, the proceedings will not be live-streamed, according to COI Secretary Javed Shadick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants in the inquiry will include first responders from discipline services, government officials, pilots, firefighters, dorm caretakers, and victims who were injured during the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has yet to be determined whether the teenager currently facing court charges for allegedly starting the fire will provide testimony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shadick stated in a news conference that the hearings will span one month, after which a report will be prepared for public release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the inquiry, the testimonies of victims will remain off the record, whereas those of other witnesses will be made public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This measure is taken to protect the primarily minor-aged victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Dr. Irfaan Ali established the Mahdia Commission Inquiry on August 10, promising affected families a thorough and unbiased examination of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chaired by Major General (Ret&#8217;d) Joe Singh, the Commission has already conducted on-site visits and engaged with affected individuals, their families, and community leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Reporter: Trichell Sobers, NCN News<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the tragic Mahdia Secondary School dormitory fire of March 22 is scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 15.
