Tracey Liverpool brings you the details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amerindian culture took center stage, with festivities showcasing delectable dishes, intricate crafts, traditional games, and captivating cultural performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the thrilling cricket competition, the Malali females displayed exceptional prowess, claiming the coveted first place prize of $65,000, triumphing over the formidable Dave And Celena All Stars. Meanwhile, the South Stars emerged victorious in the male category, securing $40,000 in prize money, with Kairuni clinching second place along with a trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrons also engaged in spirited watermelon eating and Piwari drinking competitions, adding an extra layer of excitement to the festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citizens from all walks of life reveled in the celebrations, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Amerindian traditions and ways of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rufina Allicock, a resident of Speightland, expressed her joy, stating, &#8220;Happy Heritage to every Guyanese&#8230; Thank you for supporting our heritage&#8230; We came out with a bang&#8230; Better.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan Marks from Block 42 echoed the sentiment, describing the event as a &#8220;great and good initiative&#8221; that she thoroughly enjoyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ray Smith, a visiting tourist, shared his experience, saying, &#8220;This is the first time I went to an Amerindian Heritage day&#8230; Me and my family came from the US&#8230; We walked around, enjoyed some of the wild meat&#8230; We look forward to coming back next time.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelcie Couchman, a resident, lauded the turnout and applauded Region Ten for upholding their traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notable local leaders, including MP Devin Sears, Chairman Derron Adams, and Deputy Mayor Dominique Blair, were also present to join in the celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event marks the beginning of a series of heritage activities scheduled to take place in villages across the region throughout the month, as part of the Amerindian Heritage month observances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Reporter: Tracy Liverpool, NCN News<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The vibrant community of Speightland kick-started the Village Heritage Festival over the weekend with fervent celebrations at the Community Center Ground.
