He stood as a prominent figure in the early trade union activism of the country and authored a highly influential work on the history of trade unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Irfaan Ali highlighted that Ashton Chase&#8217;s legacy serves as a powerful reminder of our collective purpose to serve humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commemoration also saw warm tributes from St. Vincent &amp; the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, and reflections on Chase&#8217;s contributions by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chase&#8217;s remains were cremated at Good Hope on the East Coast of Demerara, marking the end of an era for a distinguished and influential political figure in Guyana&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, the Nation bid farewell to Ashton Chase, the last surviving member of the four Stalwarts who formed the Political Affairs Committee and the PPP (People&#8217;s Progressive Party).
