Winfield Braithwaite Boxing Tournament Kicks Off with Promising Talent

The 2024 edition of the Winfield Braithwaite Schoolboys and Juniors Boxing Tournament commenced on Friday at the National Gymnasium, with some of the region’s best young boxers competing over three nights of action.

Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) President Steve Ninvalle underscored the importance of the tournament in fostering the development of young athletes.

He expressed appreciation for the continued support from the government and the boxing community in helping to grow the sport in Guyana.

Friday’s opening night featured nine bouts, with wins for local boxers Kenroy Klass, Shemroy Holder, and Chance Niles in their respective weight categories.

Klass secured a points victory in the 37 kg schoolboys’ category, while Holder’s bout was stopped by the referee, giving him the win.

Niles, competing in the junior 70 kg division, earned a points decision win over St. Lucia’s Orlando Monrose in the main event.
