Windies Triumph Over South Africa in T20 Series, Set Sights on World Cup

The West Indies dominated the T20 International series against South Africa, achieving a clean sweep with a convincing eight-wicket victory in the final match played on Sunday in Jamaica.

This win strengthens their momentum heading into the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

South Africa, batting first, could only manage 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Obed McCoy impressed with his bowling performance for the Windies, claiming three wickets for 39 runs.

Gudakesh Motie and Shamar Joseph also contributed significantly, taking two wickets each.

Chasing a modest target, the West Indies openers, Brandon King and Johnson Charles, provided a solid foundation with a 92-run partnership.

Charles, in particular, played a blistering knock of 69 runs off just 26 balls, including nine fours and five sixes.

King chipped in with 44 runs before departing.

Kyle Mayers (36 not out) and Alick Athanaze (6 not out) ensured a comfortable victory for the Windies, reaching the target of 165 runs within 13.5 overs, losing only two wickets.

Speaking after the match, Johnson Charles expressed satisfaction with his performance but emphasized the team’s focus on executing their plans effectively during the World Cup.

He highlighted the importance of adaptability for the squad’s success, stressing the need to adjust to various playing conditions.

The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup kicks off on June 1st, with the West Indies entering the tournament with a morale-boosting series win under their belt.
