In a thrilling conclusion to their tour down under, the West Indies cricket team secured a 37-run victory over Australia in the final match of the T20 series.
Led by Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, and Roston Chase, the men in maroon showcased their prowess to salvage a win, despite losing the series 2-1 to the Aussies.
Opting to bat first, the Windies faced early setbacks, losing three wickets within 2.5 overs with only 17 runs on the board.
However, a resilient response saw team captain Rovman Powell and Roston Chase steadying the innings with a partnership of 55 runs before their dismissals.
Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell then took charge, propelling the Windies to a formidable total of 220 for 6, with Russell scoring 71 off 29 deliveries and Rutherford contributing an unbeaten 67.
In reply, Australia, led by David Warner’s 81 and supported by Tim David’s 41, showed resilience but fell short of the target, managing to score 183 for 5 as they ran out of overs.
Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd impressed with two wickets each for the Windies, with Akeal Hosein chipping in with another wicket.
Chase, speaking after the match, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized their focus on delivering their best on the field.
He also highlighted the importance of securing a win in the final match, despite the series loss.
With this victory, the West Indies concluded their tour with a positive note, showcasing their competitive spirit and talent on the international stage.
