Westside Golf Course Launches Hole-in-One Challenge to Kick Off 2025

By Tyriq Walters | January 7, 2025

The newly inaugurated Westside Golf Course made a grand start to 2025 with its first-ever Hole-in-One Challenge, drawing golf enthusiasts and newcomers to Guyana’s only public golf course, located on the West Coast of Demerara.

The standout feature of the event was the opportunity to win a $100,000 cash prize by landing a 134-yard shot on the Island Green.

However, the challenge proved tough for participants, as the strong Atlantic breezes and the water hazard made the hole-in-one elusive.

Despite their best efforts, no participant was able to achieve the coveted shot.

The closest-to-the-pin prize was awarded to Monnaf Arjune, who came closest with an impressive attempt.

While the challenge was a key highlight, the event also introduced many first-time players to the sport, showcasing the inclusive nature of the event.

Aleem Hussain, President of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA), emphasized the event’s goal of promoting the sport to a broader audience.

“This past Sunday was a success, and within a few minutes, we saw great participation and enthusiasm,” he shared.

The Hole-in-One Challenge marked a successful debut for the Westside Golf Course, and with its inclusive atmosphere and versatile offerings, the course is poised to become a regular venue for golfers in the country.
