West Indies Women’s Cricket Team Loses ODI Series to Sri Lanka

By Eric Collymore

The West Indies women’s cricket team has lost their three-match One Day International series against Sri Lanka.

Missing their skipper and talisman Hayley Matthews, the Windies struggled and were bowled out for 92 runs in the second game of the series.

Opting to bat first, the Windies faced immediate trouble as their top four batters were dismissed with only 46 runs on the board.

Key players Rashada Williams (27), Shabika Gajnabi (0), Shemaine Campbelle (9), and Stafanie Taylor (1) were quickly sent back to the pavilion.

In an attempt to stabilize the innings, Kycia Knight scored 12, while Aaliyah Alleyne and Afy Fletcher each contributed 16 runs, but the team still managed to score only 92 runs in 31 overs.

Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs from her 6 overs.

Chasing a modest target, Sri Lanka experienced a few early setbacks but eventually reached the target in 21.2 overs, winning by five wickets and securing an unassailable lead in the series.

Vishmi Gunaratne led the Sri Lankan batting with a half-century, supported by Dilhari’s 28 runs.

For the Windies, Karishma Ramharack claimed 2 wickets for 29 runs from 5.2 overs.

The final match of the series is scheduled for Friday, June 21.
