In the opening match of their tour of Pakistan in Karachi, the West Indies Women’s cricket team clinched a commanding 113-run victory, propelled by Hayley Matthews’ stellar performance.
Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Rashada Williams, Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle established a formidable partnership, amassing 102 runs.
Campbelle contributed 45 runs before her departure in the 23rd over.
However, Matthews, displaying remarkable resilience, continued to anchor the innings, ultimately reaching an impressive 140 not out.
The Windies Women posted a challenging total of 269 for eight.
Matthews showcased her all-around prowess by also making significant contributions with the ball, claiming three wickets for 17 runs in six overs.
Pakistan struggled in their chase, slumping to 65 for four and eventually being bowled out for 156 in 35.5 overs.
Zaida James and Afy Fletcher also made valuable contributions with two wickets each.
Matthews lauded her teammates for their collective effort in securing the victory, highlighting the crucial performance of the team.
Reflecting on her innings, Matthews expressed satisfaction at batting through the full 50 overs, emphasizing the team’s focus on capitalizing on opportunities in every match.
