Half-centuries from Brandon King and Evin Lewis powered the West Indies to victory over Sri Lanka in the first match of their three-game T20 series on the sub-continent.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl, the West Indies restricted Sri Lanka to 179 for 7.

Romario Shepherd led the bowling attack with 2 for 39 in four overs, while Gudakesha Motie, Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Springer each claimed a wicket.

Chasing 180, the West Indies openers Brandon King and Evin Lewis provided a strong foundation, amassing 107 runs before Lewis fell for 50 in the 10th over.

King followed soon after, scoring 63, and Shai Hope added a quick 7 before his dismissal in the 11th over.

Rovman Powell (13) and Roston Chase (19) contributed briefly before both were dismissed with the score at 167 for 5.

Sherfane Rutherford’s 14 guided the Caribbean team to victory, achieving their target with five balls to spare.

The second match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, at 9:30 AM local time.
